Jersey fabrics are elastic, breathable, absorbent and robust and are therefore characterised by a particularly high level of comfort. Even Coco Chanel, who was the first to use jersey for her collections in the 1920s, knew: "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury".

Jersey fabrics are also easy to care for. It is generally suitable for the washing machine, does not crease easily and can be ironed if necessary. With a spandex content of less than 10%, jersey can also be tumble dried. So that you can enjoy our great fabrics for a long time, we recommend washing jersey gently and turning it inside out beforehand.

Jersey fabrics are suitable for making comfortable clothing such as T-shirts, dresses, skirts, pyjamas or trousers. However, it is also very popular for hats, hair bands, loops, etc. Jersey is particularly popular for children's fabrics due to its properties. It is soft, robust and easy to care for, making it ideal for everyday and comfortable clothing for babies and children.

Jersey fabrics are a fine knitted fabric in a right-to-left weave made from cotton, viscose, modal, polyester, wool, silk and blends (cotton jersey, viscose jersey, etc.).

Interlock jersey fabrics

Interlock jersey is basically suitable for the same sewing projects as single jersey, but is more densely knitted, stronger and less stretchy. Interlock jersey is suitable for comfortable clothing such as jumpers, longsleeves, leggings, skirts, dresses and jackets. It is also popular for sports and children's fabrics.

Romanit jersey fabrics

Romanit jersey is a particularly stable knitted jersey fabric. Due to its strength and weight, it hardly creases and is suitable for comfortable clothing such as jumpers, long sleeves, leggings, skirts, dresses and jackets. It is also popular for sports and children's fabrics.

Processing and care:

When cutting jersey fabrics, you should always pay attention to the direction of the stitches, as the fabric may not stretch equally in all directions. Jersey can be open-edged as it does not fray at the cut edges. You should sew with jersey needles and apply as little tension to the fabric as possible. A narrow zig-zag stitch provides the necessary elasticity. Shaped tapes at the edges prevent rolling if necessary. Reinforce the shoulder seams with a tape to prevent them from wearing out.

To summarise:

1. always pre-wash or steam the jersey fabric and ensure that it does not warp when drying.

2. cut with a rotary cutter or tailor's scissors

3. mark the notches preferably with tailor's chalk or magic marker

4. do not pull jersey fabrics, as the edges may curl up

5. sweat fabrics and jersey fabrics do not fray, so neatened edges are not absolutely necessary, but they do reduce the risk of the fabric edges curling.

6. use a circular needle for sewing (jersey needle)

7. sewing is best done with an overlock. It is essential to use an elasticated stitch on a normal sewing machine. Either a triple straight stitch or a small zigzag stitch. Adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary.

8. hem the jersey fabric preferably with the coverlock or twin needle sewing machine.
