French Terry

French Terry is breathable, absorbent and robust and is therefore particularly comfortable to wear. It is not roughened on the back and the individual loops are very well visible. This makes it lighter and suitable all year round. Another common name for the fabric is summer sweat.

French terry is versatile and is suitable for a wide range of garments. From sweatshirts and hoodies to jogging bottoms and dresses - the applications are almost limitless.

French terry - the lightweight sweat fabric for warmer days too

French Terry is breathable, absorbent, robust and is therefore characterised by a particularly high level of comfort. It is not roughened on the back, so the individual stitches are easily recognisable. This makes it lighter and suitable all year round. Another common name for the fabric is summer sweat.

French terry is easy to care for. It is generally suitable for the washing machine, does not crease easily and can be ironed if necessary. With a spandex content of less than 10%, it can also be tumble dried.

It is suitable for making comfortable clothing such as hoodies, sweatshirts, sports trousers, etc. Summer sweat is particularly popular for children's fabrics due to its properties. It is soft, robust and warm at the same time, making it ideal for everyday and comfortable clothing for babies and children.

Processing and care instructions

When cutting French terry, you should always pay attention to the direction of the stitches, as the fabric may not stretch equally in all directions. Summer sweat can be open-edged as it does not fray at the cut edges. You should sew with suitable jersey needles and thread and apply as little tension as possible to the fabric. A narrow zig-zag stitch/overlock seam provides the necessary elasticity. Reinforce shoulder seams with a tape to prevent them from wearing out.

1. always pre-wash or steam and ensure that it does not warp when drying.

2. cut with a rotary cutter or tailor's scissors

3. mark snips preferably with tailor's chalk or magic marker

4. do not pull the jersey, as the edges may curl up

5. sweat and jersey do not fray, so neatened edges are not absolutely necessary, but they do reduce the risk of the fabric edges curling.

6. use a circular needle for sewing (jersey needle)

7. sewing is best done with an overlock. When using a normal sewing machine, always use an elasticated stitch, either a triple straight stitch or a small zigzag stitch and adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary.

8. hems are best sewn with the coverlock or twin needle.
