PIÑATEX® is a vegan leather alternative made from fibers of the pineapple plant - a waste product of the pineapple harvest.
It is durable, flexible, breathable, water resistant and soft. It is suitable for making bags, furnitures and shoes.
Fibers from the pineapple leaves are used as raw material for the PIÑATEX® production, which do not have to be cultivated extra, as they are waste from the pineapple harvest. The long fibers are extracted still on the plantation. After washing, drying and degumming, a fibrefelt can be produced from it. This is tanned in Spain or Italy by using a process that nearly eliminates the use of non-recyclable chemicals. A resin coating makes the vegan leather hard-wearing and durable. PIÑATEX® is not biodegradable. GOTS-certified pigments are used for the colour.
